Love tri-tip? You are in for a TREAT if you have yet to try the famous tri tip sandwich from the Seaside Market in Cardiff, CA. Affectionately known as “Cardiff Crack” to locals, I finally got the chance to try it for myself. Pro: best tri tip I have ever had. Con: I now crave it on a weekly basis.
The Seaside Market is a gourmet market filled with unique foods, and an extensive deli and seafood counter. It is also next door to one of my favorite casual breakfast spots – Pipe’s Café. Every weekend outside of the Seaside Market stands a pop-up tent with two barbeques rarin’ to go. This is where the magic happens.
For $9, the massive tri tip sandwich is accompanied with an equally large side (I went with the barbeque beans). I took it to go, and was honestly so blown away by the flavor of the trip-tip that I didn’t even use the side of BBQ sauce, because I wanted to savor the flavor all on its own. My boyfriend calls me the “sauce queen,” because I am constantly drowning my food in salsa and sauce, but this sandwich needed absolutely nothing. It’s that delicious!
For those of you who are planning a BBQ or a party, the Cardiff Crack is also available for order at the Seaside Market or on their exclusive website. According to their website – “Our Burgundy Pepper Tri Tip is a delicious USDA Choice tri tip trimmed, marinated and infused with a one-of-a-kind Burgundy Pepper marinade, which through our secret process, results in tri tip that is incomparably flavorful and tender.” Couldn’t be more spot on!
If you aren’t close to Cardiff, might I recommend a beach day in North County? With one of my favorite San Diego main drags nearby – the 101 in Encinitas – you can surely make a great day out of it! Hang at the beach, grab a beer at Biergarden, and enjoy some legendary tri-tip. Note – this isn’t a restaurant, but there is plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the sunshine and ocean view while you eat.
If you are in San Diego then you MUST venture up to North County to the Seaside Market get the famous tri-tip sandwich known as “Cardiff-Crack,” the most absolutely delicious tri-tip sandwich I have ever experienced. Thanks for reading about my current obsession. If you head there, I would love to hear about it! Have a great week everyone!
